Here the modern and cool house design ideas by Zack de Vito Architecture this Laidley Street Residence in San Francisco, architecturally speaking about this house: This new construction, single-family residence is spatially rational, expressive of materials and craft. A modern, eco-sensitive, urban retreat that is kid tough/kid friendly, but doesn’t compromise on design. A panelized framing system, built off-site, reduced waste and construction time. High fly ash concrete, engineered lumber, cellulose insulation, FSC certified woods and low VOC finishes were all employed. A photo voltaic system provides electricity and solar hot water panels reduce heating loads for radiant heat and domestic hot water.

Sailing to Miami Day 3..... Improvements and better conditions

Day 3: Sunshine & Hope - Things get better..

So day 3 started off much better after what appeared to be a bad end of day two. Jessica was crying due to the fact that the engine seemed unrepairable and after spending all day trying to fix it she had a really bad sunburn badly, I mean really badly. She was completely over it. After Wal-mart we had dinner and I was so tired I passed out with in two minutes of hitting the sack. It was a long tiresome day for both of us. One with intense heat and disappointing endings.

Inside the cabin as you enter the sleeping chambers

Today things seemed much better as I woke up. I had a great unexpected night's rest due to our new fans from Wal-mart. Our mosquito nets worked miracles and our citronella candle was fantastic. We bought plastic bins and organized the place and the musty old smell turned into a citrus orange as we bought gelling spray fresheners and spray as well. Bought new carpets for the floor and all of the sudden the little boat looked like something different. No longer hot and humid with a musty air but nice, comfortable due to us using the fans with a combination water ice bowl that made the air blow through them instantly giving us a refreshing cool air inside. With 4 fans we thought we were in heaven and so started our laziest after noon yet. I actually slept from 3:00-6:00 and woke up just minutes ago.

Our Traveling Companion Kiva a 10 yr old Macaw

But still no engine means we will be driving down to Miami tomorrow to get a few things and run a few errands before we attempt this trip again.. At least I think. I still have to talk to Jessica, who alongside me is munching away at chips with dip. Hopefully she will have good news on our departure from this lazy old town called Smirna Beach where it seems 7:00 is the closing time for everything as downtown is deserted after 8:00 PM with not a single person in sight and it seems everyone even in their homes are sleeping for you see no light coming from inside. New concept for me coming from Miami, or the city that never sleeps.

Fresh Fruit in the cabin

Radios for emergencies and other First Aid Stuff

So finally tonight the engine is being worked on and it looks like we will be ready to go.. Finally good news from our little sailboat.. Stay tuned for our actual voyage.. Finally I Hope..

My sailing trip from Datona to Miami

A new adventure In sailing

So today marks the first day of a four day trip of sailing Florida's back rivers and dreched out canals in a sailboat belonging to one of my friends. Before you all say WOW he is Sokol lucky and other comments of the same ki d let me explain in detail.

This is not your typical luxury sailing boat with crew and all the fixings of home but instead one that we must get to Miami, fix the motor, make sure it doesn't leak, and manage to get through places called mosquito lagoon which is over 40 miles during the day so that we can actually set anchor in a place that we can sleep covered in off and with the windows open for ventilation and not be forced to sleep sealed up in what will become an oven as we hide from the mosquitoes. In case you have not figured it out this little sail boat also lacks AC.

Day 1...

When we arrived at the marina port smirna beach I instantly noticed all the beautiful and large sailboats but having been warned by my friend, I already knew which boat was ours, the very last one, at the end of the last dock, which made unloading the vehicle located in the front parking lot, pleasent as I say that word with clutched teeth. It looked a little ragged and maybe used would be the word, but I have to admit the more of it Jessica Hale, avant-Garde's new secretary and captain of the ship, opened up the front section, put away materials, organized and put together the various sections of the inner cabin, the better it looked and in the end minus the AC, the fact that we have to rebuild the engines before we set sail, and the likelihood that with our sense of timing we will be stuck in mosquito lagoon tomorrow night forcing us to sleep in an oven because it will have to be sealed right now we are finished with today's chores, about to get in the nicest shower I have ever seen in any dock master area, off to a glass of wine and then laugh about everything that has happened to get us here.

For you see it's been three days we have trying to leave Miami for here and today we finally actually left the house. I think deep down we knew it would require a lot of work to get this trip started and it did, but now the adventure begins and we have 4 days of a journey through Florida's man made dug canals along the intercoastel waterways and the restored Indian River. A trek that is starting from this beautiful beach city near Datona and will end in Miami, officially taking over as guardian of our little ship and will be it's new home. We bring with us food for 20 people, engine parts, back up parts, emergency stuff in case we sink and strangely enough I find myself already attached to this little boat which now looks great but don't forget looks can sometimes be deceiving..

After my shower we will head to walmart while our batteries charge and purchase two portable fans and then we will truly be blessed and I can't help but think that the reason I am on this trip that the people who were professionals who tried last time abandoned ship as they told the owner they had lost confidence in the vessels ability to get them to Miami.

Where is their sense of adventure or challenge. I know we will get this boat to Miami because we are determined... We will make it through the mosquito lagoon before nightfall, and we will be fine in the end and laugh as we turn this little boat into a modern, contemporary sailboat filled with new windows, fittings, sails, kitchen galley, and everything in between for a little company that will one day be huge called Avant Garde Home Furnishings,LLC., Everything for your modern & Contemporary home..

If you all remember the little engine that could think about us as we will be in Miami by Wednesday night because in our hearts we really like this little boat and we love a challenge. that is something I can promise.

Check back for daily pictures and trek stories of our journey from Daytona to Miami in our own little engine that could...

We know we can....

Another day in Cuba and more info on this beautiful Island

From Cuba and Missing all of you...

Cuba is a very nice but Technologically challanged country ...

I am writting all of you today from the Island Nation of Cuba, A beautiful paradise where I am on vacation with my enytire family celebrating my grandmother´s 105th Birthday PARTY. We have planned a huge celebration and she is as fit as is to be expected from someone her age. We have rented out an entire floor of a hotel in Santa Clara, one of Cuba´s oldest and most advanced cities and have invited over 100 people to join us.

Cuba is a beautiful paradise of jungles, sugar fields, and beautiful scenic mountains. The cities are decaying however not anywhere near as bad as is portrayed by the mainstream media outside the island. For the most part people get by and rarely do they or one hear mention of the government. Mostly people just go about their daily lives. I would send pictures but I can not upload my camera as no one on the island is permitted internet access, only gvernment run centers where you must be a foreiger with a valid passport are you allowed to even browse or communicate through the internet, which is where I am writting this blog from today.

its amazing how in a world full of technology wonders such as the iPhone, iPad, computers, video games, plasma TV´s and all other electronics, this island has none of them and your considered rich if you have a cell phone. iPhones here do not work either the iPads unless you are from Europe or Canada or any other country besides the United States whose connections work through the Cuban Cell network which is run by the government and then at an astronomical cost. WiFi is a thing only seen in rich tourist areas or huge spanish, italian, and british hotels in the capital, which I must say is stunningly beautiful as the government has spent millions renovating the old section of Havanna. I have never seen in my countless travels such beautifilly preserved and restored old section of a capital as the one found in Havanna. It literally seems like you just stepped off a time machine and are instantly hit by bright colors of the Carribean in the paints used to refurbish all downtown buildings. It truly seems your someplace else and at another time in History.

And now to its beaches, not a single place I have ever been, Carribean, Pacific, South America, Africa, Mediterranean, Framce, Greece, Ibiza, Mykonos, compares to the truly clear and crystal waters of the beaches of Cuba. Unspoiled, untouched, and about as nice as you can possibly imagine Varadero is indeed the most beautiful best kept beach in the entire world. Pristine and vigin at tourism its perhaps the world´s best kept secret.

Hopefully I will be able to attach pictures shortly to share with all of you this remarkable Island nation whose peoples are the friendliest anywhere on this planet and they openly share with you everything, even if its little or nothing, that they have and open their hearts and homes to you and welcome you to come back anytime.

Truly a remarkable experience and a truly stunningly scenic beautiful Island Nation, Cuba is an experience more of you should experience..
